Lens for Laser Machine

Glass Lens play an important role in Laser machine.

You should pay more attention on choosing glass material as different glass types have different characteristics. You may select according to the following characteristics.

1. Glass refractive index and Abbe value. Reflectivity is the ratio of the speed of light in a vacuum to the the speed of light in a particular material at a given wavelength, while the Abbe value will quantify the dispersion (dispersion rate) of a particular spectral range. For example, the higher the refractive index of the material is, the stronger the refractive power the light is of, and then the smaller the bending curvature of the lens required. In the case of high refractive index, the spherical difference is smaller, and the light speed is faster through the materials with low refractive index. High Abbe values lead to low dispersion and less chromatic aberration.

2. Density. Glass density determines the optical component’s weight and the lens diameter, which is a data index need to consider for the applications that are limited in weight. In addition, the density generally refers to the ability to work with the glass, and the material cost.

3. Expansion coefficient. The glass expansion coefficient is the main factor for glass application on extreme temperature or fast temperature difference. Optical mechanical designers must keep this in mind when designing optical components.

Many glass manufacturers offer products with different product names but with the same material characteristics. Follows are Basic values of all types of glass
